Abdelli brings the poetic and passionate music of his ancient culture (the Kabyls - part of the Berber tribe, original inhabitants of North Africa [7000 B.C.]) into the twentieth century. Using traditional Algerian instruments such as the mandola, the bendir and the darbukka, Abdelli orchestrates a collaboration with musicians from South America and Ukraine, inviting in the usage of the cajòn, the tormento, the quena (Chilean), and the bandoura (Ukrainian) resulting in the creation of unique and colorful new rhythms. Differing from normal studio productions, Abdelli¹s voice was recorded first so as to allow complete freedom for the rest of the arrangements. |
